Thrush,
an invasion of bacterium (spherophorus necrophorus),
and can
be extremely harmful if left untreated.Here are
a few
signs of thrush to look for in your horse's feet.
* Back,
tarry like substance oozing from the horses feet.
* Very
unpleasant odor.
* Bottom
of the hoof becomes (as it progresses)
soft
and crumbly.
*
Untreated hoofs begin to split,and crack and bleed.
There are
many products that claim to cure thrush but I
find the
simplest and least expensive is to buy
a bottle
of betadine solution. Thoroughly pick and clean the
affected
foot and use a stiff brush to get all the debris
out of
the deep cleft area. Brush or spray on the
bedadine
solution onto the foot every day for 4-6 days.
If your
horse's feet do not seem any better in about
a week,
you will need to contact your farrier or
veterinarian for treatment and preventative
information.

And Your Horse,
